A bit about the Cornwood 10K

The Cornwood 10K Challenge and 4K Fun Run were first held in the summer of 2005, organised by Cornwood Church as a fund-raising event for repairs to our beautiful but ever aging church,

to draw people into the village of Cornwood, and to encourage locals (especially youngsters) to enjoy running, jogging or walking around this glorious part of Devon.

That first year we made the mistake of holding the runs around mid-day in August which, as those of you who took part will recall, was extremely hot and not ideal running conditions.  After a few changes of date, dictated by suggestions of school holidays and nearby larger runs moving around in the calendar, our organising committee decided to stick with the 4th Saturday in July come whatever (although Covid in 2020 and 2021 over-ruled us completely, like every other event).

The Cornwood Challenge and Fun Run are organised and marshalled by volunteers, with the help of outside groups such as Erme Valley Harriers and our very generous sponsors, and we are all working together to raise funds for Cornwood Church and Cornwood Primary School.

The 10K route is shown on the map overleaf, and is mostly run on roads but with a few tracks across private land (with thanks in particular to the estates at Delamore and Slade).  It is a challenging route that celebrates Devon’s hills, and the Fun Run is similarly not flat, but what both runs enjoy in full are fantastic views and scenery.

We as a community are very proud of these events and seeing them grow over the last 20 years into what we regard as one of the premier running events in South Devon.
